Dr. Conrad K. Nightingale, a 1971 graduate of the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine, takes a special interest in equine sports medicine. Dr. Nightingale, a college and Olympic athlete himself, applies that experience and respect to his equine patients. "One of the reasons I enjoy working with horses is that they are athletes themselves. A lot of the same principles and training I had to live by apply to them as well." Dr. Nightingale sees small animal patients (diagnostics, surgery and well-patient care) as well as overseeing his primary and referral equine practice. He enjoys the challenge and diversity of both. Since purchasing Hill Country Veterinary Hospital and Equine Service Center in 1973, "Dr. Conrad" has expanded the service to include cutting-edge techniques like laser surgery, and ancient healing arts like acupuncture. "Offering the right therapeutic mixture of "old and new" can only increase the benefit to every patient," Dr. Nightingale says. The doctor's history includes service in the U.S. Air Force, where he was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. He and his family fell in love with the Texas Hill Country, which lead to their move to Bandera. Dr. Nightingale and his wife, Nancy, have three children, Amie, Todd and Abby, and one grandchild, Catherine. The Nightingales remain active in community and church activities. Professionally, Dr. Nightingale is a member of the American
Veterinary Medical Association, the American Association of Equine Practitioners,
the Kerrville Area Medical Association and the Texas Veterinary Medical
Association which honored him as the 2002 Equine Practitioner of
the Year. |
